Miss Deaf Nebraska - Kristina Lorenzo
I just turned 21 on Feb. 6, and I am originally from West New York, N.J., although I was born in North Bergen, N.J. I moved to Nebraska in 1994 with my family, because my mother has family here.
I was born deaf, and I come from a deaf family of four children. When I moved to Nebraska, I was mainstreamed until graduation. I attended Gallaudet from 2004-2005, until I transferred to the University of Nebraska - Omaha, where I have been ever since. My anticipated graduation date is May 2008, and I am looking forward to earning my B.S. in biology with a focus on zoology. My ideal career would take place within the field of animal conservation and research, where I am already earning experience by interning at the Reproductive Lab of the Center for Conservation and Research.
Other than school and the zoo, I enjoy relaxing. During the summer, I became a softball freak. I played for leagues and at MAAD (Midwest Athletic Association for the Deaf) tournaments. Currently, I am playing basketball for a deaf women team and am enjoying the busy life.
