History Of The Lions Hearing Aid Bank
The bank provides used hearing aids to adult Nebraska residents
who demonstrate financial need. The Lions Hearing Aid Bank is operated
jointly by three organizations: the Nebraska Lions Foundation (NLF),
the Nebraska Medical Center (NMC), and the Nebraska Commission for
the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NCDHH). The Lions seek donations of
aids and funds, nominate prospective hearing aid recipients and
help explain the bank service to the public, UNMC receives donated
hearing aids, analyzes them to ensure that they function correctly,
and catalogs the aids by their sound characteristics, NCDHH receives
and processes applications for hearing aids.
How To Qualify For A Hearing Aid From The
Lions Hearing Aid Bank
Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NCDHH) sends
an application form to the prospective hearing aid recipient. The
candidate completes the form and returns it to NCDHH. The Candidate
will be notified if they qualify or not under the financial guidelines.
A recent audiogram (six months old) showing the results of a hearing
test should be sent to Joyce Sharp at the Nebraska Medical Center
or applicant may contact the Medical Center for a list of audiologist.
Nebraska Lions support the various steps in the process for those
who qualify, including covering the cost of fitting and processing
the hearing aid. The age requirement for the Lions Hearing Aid Bank
is between the age of 17 and 64.
