The bank provides used hearing aids to adult Nebraska residents who demonstrate financial need. The Lions Hearing Aid Bank is operated jointly by three organizations: the Nebraska Lions Foundation (NLF), the Nebraska Medical Center (NMC), and the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NCDHH). The Lions seek donations of aids and funds, nominate prospective hearing aid recipients and help explain the bank service to the public, UNMC receives donated hearing aids, analyzes them to ensure that they function correctly, and catalogs the aids by their sound characteristics, NCDHH receives and processes applications for hearing aids.
Lions Hearing Aid Bank Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NCDHH) sends an application form to the prospective hearing aid recipient. The candidate completes the form and returns it to NCDHH. The Candidate will be notified if they qualify or not under the financial guidelines. A recent audiogram (six months old) showing the results of a hearing test should be sent to Georgia Boeck at the Nebraska Medical Center or applicant may contact the Medical Center for a list of audiologist. Nebraska Lions support the various steps in the process for those who qualify, including covering the cost of fitting and processing the hearing aid. The age requirement for the Lions Hearing Aid Bank is between the age of 17 and 64.
Hearing aids are donated to the Lions Hearing Aid Bank, through Lions Clubs or individual members. A donation of hearing aids or funds for the bank is tax deductible. Receipts will be provided, if requested.
