Hearing Loss Association, Omaha Area meets the second Tuesday of the month except during December, July and August. Come and take advantage of the opportunity to meet other people who have a hearing loss.

The national Hearing Loss Association of America, is the nation’s foremost membership and advocacy organization for people with hearing loss. It is based in Bethesda, Maryland and formerly was called Self Help for Hard of Hearing People which was started in 1979 by Howard E. (Rocky) Stone.

Its mission is to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss through information, education, support and advocacy. For more information about the organization, please contact them at:

Membership in the Hearing Loss Association of America is $25.00 per year. Membership includes a bi-monthly magazine, “Hearing Loss,” an excellent source of information about hearing loss, hearing aids, assistive devices, cochlear implants, and more.

The Hearing Loss Association of America sponsors an annual convention. This year, the convention is June 21-24 in Oklahoma City. It is exciting to have it close to Nebraska. There are workshops, exhibits and the opportunity to meet other people who have a hearing loss and share experiences with them. The Early Bird registration rate ends January 31 st. If the Omaha Public Schools are cancelled due to bad weather, the meeting of the Hearing Loss Association, Omaha Area is cancelled, too.
