Signaling Devices
Signalers are devices that allow people to be aware of audible warnings. These devices alert deaf and hard of hearing people to the telephone, a doorbell, a baby crying, fire/smoke alarms, timers, alarm clocks, pagers, etc. Two basic types of signalers are available. One is a flashing light signaler, which is probably the most common device, and the second is a vibrating signaler.
The flashing signaler can be a single lamp hooked to a receiver or specially installed lights placed strategically around the house. These lights flash in response to sounds and alert the person to the auditory source, such as a doorbell or ringing phone. The vibrating signaler is often used for pagers and alarm clocks. These devices tell the user that the pager or alarm clock is ringing. Signalers are used in the home and on the job. Signaling devices provide access to information that would otherwise be inaccessible.
