NCDHH field representatives serve as advocates for issues affecting Nebraskans who are deaf or hard of hearing. They are responsible for guaranteeing services are available to those with a hearing loss, and they provide assistance to those seeking products and services designed to meet their communication needs.
The rights of people who are deaf or hard of hearing are protected under federal, state or local laws. To maintain the protection provided under these laws, people with a hearing loss must advocate for themselves. Individuals can challenge infringements of their rights to equal access, participation and communication in public facilities.
Those facing a situation where they have experienced discrimination based on their hearing loss or access to services can file an online complaint form. NCDHH field representatives will provide assistance in the form of information and referrals regarding the topic addressed (Note: NCDHH field representatives do not serve as legal counsel).
NCDHH is excited to bring you a series of videos that will provide information regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act and Advocacy in American Sign Language. It is our intent to provide overviews and examples of the ADA. It is not meant as a replacement for legal counsel. If you feel your rights under the ADA have been violated, we can help.
